Buona lettura.
Hi! We have the great pleasure to present this interview to an amazing artists of City of Mexico: Rurru Mipanochia. Rurru mixed myths of ancient Mexico with contemporary problems of women. Her art is really very interesting, and here we have ask her some questions about her life and work. I hope you like this talk!
1. We’ve admired your works at Crack! And we are very fascinated by them. Your illustrations are graphically original and have strange subjects. Your draws have principally a sexual meaning, which is your relation with sexuality and how you live it as a woman?
Thank you! You are such a sweet hearts! Yes, it is about gender and sexual issues mixed with some pre-columbian myths, legends and deities about it. Also, it is about to achieve the audience could recognize itself in the face, body and sexuality of what is mostly called “the other”. This bond is to be created through my work. My work focused towards a public whose cultural background is same or different from the Mexican context, so that it could have an approach to the conception of sexuality in ancient times through the iconographic, symbolic and mythological motifs I work with, giving an innovative colorful twist that welcomes the spectator in a playful and even childlike manner.
I try to live my sexuality as the way I think, I am open to all ways of sexuality, mostly the ones who have to be with fluids and abject stuff of course if it is always consensual. I am more in to erotized other parts of the body or outside the body, for me having sex is not just “get in to, get out”, it is more than penetration.
2. Women usually have shame or fear to talk about their sexual experiences and to live freely their sexualitiy, as if women can’t feel pleasure for love. For you there is or there will be a universal way to free the woman by this stereotypes and prejudice?
I think all of us should be open to talk freely about our sexuality and about what we like or dislike, and handle and understanding our sexuality in an individual way. All of us have different likes, there is not a “correct” or universal way.
3. Now, what about the relation with love?
I have always fucked people I love (most of the time), it does not matter if I dont meet them long time. This is gonna sound such a hippie stuff, but I move with vibes, I could feel love or affinity in few minutes or not. I just flow with it, I am going to fuck with people I like in any way, most of the time in a mental and energy-vibe way.
4. On your instagram profile, we have seen strong images about menses. The blood and the period is really current in your works, but for the great part of people this is a tabù. For example we think at women that hide the absorbents or that are embarassed about menses. Why a natural feature like period is so demonized? And what it does mean be a woman in our society?
The hetero- patriarcal institution wanted and wants women outside certains action fields.
Our corporal fluids are as exciting as our outside bodies, I think. There are erotisism all around them. Why do vampires never feed with menses instead of neck blood? I do not get it, would be easier! xD hahaha
5. Your illustrations regain Mexican myths and legend. What’s the first myths that you have illustrated and what is the myths that you love more? And why you have chosen to represent mexican myths?
Because I like them and it is important to me to get them back, coz’ neither lots of mexicans knows about them.
The first one it was about the bat beating the goddess of flower’s pussy, so she started bleeding and that is why Mayas Keekchies believed women got their menstruation. This one I love it, and I love also others around menstruation, like the rabbit had sex with the moon and she started bleeding; or the one with Ixchel: when the dad punished her for having sex with a guy and send the owls to kill her, but she conviced them not to do it and send the father a pumpkin with menstruo inside to say it was her heart, and lots more.
6. What about the “traditional religions” that put always women on a minor role?
Bull shit.
7. We are in love by your illustrations! The signs, the draw but also the use of the colour is original and personal. There are some artists or some works that ispired you?
Thanks again, well, in fact, yes, there are a lots, like Gerda Wegener, Aubrey Beardsley, Tomy Ungerer, Egon Schiele, Alphonse Mucha, Klimt, Quentin Blake, Toshio Saeki, Mike Diana, Suehiro Maruo, Jan Toorop, etc, etc, etc…
8. Now, the last question: What is your favourite comic and your favourite book?
Peanuts of Charles Schulz and The Smile of a Vampire of Suehiro Maruo.
Thank you Almendra for your time and for your sweetness! We hope to see you next year at Crack!
Amici, ecco invece la parte in italiano!
Grazie! Siete molto gentili!
Grazie ancora, sono molti in effetti, come: Gerda Wegener, Aubrey Beardsley, Tomy Ungerer, Egon Schiele, Alphonse Mucha, Klimt, Quentin Blake, Toshio Saeki, Mike Diana, Suehiro Maruo, Jan Toorop, etc, etc, etc…
